The first “online” social networks developed through the phone system. My fascination with social media began in the 1980′s. As part of a group of hackers, known as phreakers – we took over networks to connect with others, including virtual seminars through company test lines.
There are so many great networking opportunities, but how are you using them to build relationships and connect professionally?
Effective business networking is the bringing together of like minded individuals who, through relationship building, become walking, talking advertisements for one another.
MIKE WHITMORE: Yes. What we said earlier on, I don’t know if we mentioned it here; it’s this disruptiveness of the ideas. Right? Yeah, we’re competitors in the sense that we were talking about common foundational principles that business want to hear about. That business as usual small, medium and to large enterprises and this is the interesting piece of our social media. What we see out there is “Fresh” in our business consulting; is this is disruptive and is changing the game. Even you and I and others are trying to get a handle on this thing and we’re making a difference as seeing bottom-line results. That’s what we are going to be sharing at the 201 Conference. What we are seeing and why, and what works, and best practices, which is still being developed.
MIKE WHITMORE: And Mike Whitmore in Seattle. How are you doing?
DARREN WILLIGER: I’m doing well Mike. I was thinking of one topic for today might be “Ethical Greatness.” I know we were talking recently on how social media, like any media source could be used for good or bad. You could be bash your competitor or promote yourself or promote a concept. I have found, as you have as well, that’s it’s better to influence the good and push all the positivity as opposed to spotlighting any negativity.
I just had a great call with my friend Mike Whitmore of Fresh Consulting. We were talking about how awesome our event coming up next month will be and wanted to share how this idea came to be…
