Today’s Hot Designing Styles
From rustic and traditional to formal and contemporary; today’s interior design styles are as diverse as houses and homeowners are themselves. But you may ask what are the most common design styles being preferred anyways?
Traditional Design
Traditional design styles are more relaxing and classic design. The calm, orderly and predictable environment of traditional design with little or no bright colors and no hasty designs makes this a preferred homey style for families with young children where formality has been lost. When designing a traditional-looking room, you may want to go for the following design elements:
- Upholstered furniture.
- Unstated accessories.
- Mostly wood furniture, trims and moldings.
Contemporary Design Contemporary design is the latest and trendy design style. It’s bright and airy; comfortable and quiet and features characteristics of simplicity, clean lines and texture, with just a hint of sophistication. An accurate contemporary design features all the followings in its style:
- Colors – neutrals, blacks and whites are preferred in this design
- Line & Space – Walls are left uncluttered, windows are left bare, as are floors and ceilings are often raised to give the room a large open and empty feel. Architectural details such as bare beams, pipes and even chipped or broken bricks provide texture.
- Bold Furniture – The key element of this design style is to keep the furniture and accessories bold and bright.
Formal DesignA formal design is big, elegant and luxurious. Everything including the furniture, the lighting, the accessories, even the rugs is big and overstated. Sharp colors, rich marbles and lots of intricately carved wood are preferred in this design style. This style is most suitable for homes with:
- Tall ceilings
- Big rooms
- Large windows
- Plenty of architectural details
Rustic DesignRustic design styles are usually preferred for woodsy areas and vacation houses. This design is simple, with a proclivity toward majestic living and features very down-to-earth colors and textures such as natural wood furnishings; lots of wood flooring and very little extravagance.
Victorian Design
This is the most common design style and is elaborate and delectate. This design features the styles, color and fabrics of late 18th and 19th centuries. The best way to work out a Victorian design is to incorporate:
- Sharp colors such as greens, reds, mauves, burgundies and purples.
- Rich wood furnishings with elaborate carvings.
- Accessories like boxes, small trinkets, candleholders etc.
- Highly structured window coverings using the best and heaviest materials.
- Area rugs.
