Hair always tends to grow and in doing so it falls out as well, that’s pretty normal. The problem which arises is when the hair falls out faster than it can be replaced by you or when the follicles in your scalp stops growing hair altogether. Excessive hair loss may occur at any time and for any set of reasons.
If you’ve had an illness or surgery and your hair stars falling off 3 to 4 months later, it may really be related to the drugs and medications that you took during the period. In this type of case the loss of your hair is only a temporary affair.
Hormones may also be responsible for hair loss. If your thyroid gland fails to function efficiently by either performing too much or too little, you hair may easily fall out as well. This is the same thing with medical treatment. Male and female hormones which are called androgens and estrogens, may lead to hair loss if they aren’t balanced in the body.
In females of childbearing age, the birth of a child may lead to a situation of excessive hair loss which usually starts at about 3 months after they have given birth. This usually occurs due to hormone fluctuations. If you’re pregnant high levels of certain hormones in your body tends to allow you keep hair that should have fallen out. When you return to your regular hormonal levels after birth, this overdue hair then falls off.
Certain medications may lead to severe hair loss and they include: blood thinners ( which are also known as anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy in order to treat cancer, excess vitamin A, acne medications, birth control pills and certain antidepressant medications as well.
Fungal infections of the scalp may also lead to hair loss and such hair loss may also be an indicator of certain serious health issues like diabetes, liver issues, kidney problems and lupus at the same time. If at any period you notice severe hair loss for no reason at all, you should visit a doctor so they can find out if it’s actually due to more serious issues.
If you’ve successfully eliminated any physical reasons for the occurrence of your hair loss, it may just be a simple case of pattern baldness which is a hereditary condition that may be due to family lineage. In such situations there is little that you can do with the exception of certain treatments available on the market which may effectively replace any hair that you may have lost or slow down the loss of such hair.
Some other reasons such as improper hair care in women may lead to the loss of hair and the related follicles on their scalp. By continuously treating your hair with certain excessive chemicals such as dyes, perms as well as strengtheners, you can effectively damage all the hair follicles which aid in hair growth by causing swelling and inflammation of these follicles at the same time. This may also stop them from working in their proper manner.
Wearing your hair too tightly in pigtails, cornrows or in unnecessarily tight hair rollers, may easily pull on your hair and cause a sort of hair loss which is known as traction alopecia. If the pulling stopped before the scarring of your scalp occurs you can easily grow your hair back otherwise if you don’t stop it, permanent scarring may occur as well the good news however that is in most cases this hair will go back if measures are taken in order to stop the damage as soon as it has occurred.
